Some of our best-remembered nights have come with a dress code. Here is how a theme changes the room.
All white
Afro Love: White Affair asked everyone to wear white. We ran it at Astons Bedford in February 2025 and at Kumba Lounge in Luton that June. With everyone in the same colour, the whole room becomes the picture.
Denim
The Afro Rhythm Denim Party at Astons Bedford, on 25 July 2025, took a simpler idea: wear denim. It is easy for everyone to join, and it still looks like a theme once the room fills up.
Green and white
For Ówànbè Naija on 3 October, guests were invited to dress to celebrate Nigeria, with green and white optional. The colours of the flag turned the dress code into a nod to the occasion.
Our tips for a themed night
Plan your outfit a few days ahead rather than on the day. Pick shoes you can dance in. Check the poster for the dress code, and for any 18+ rule and ID requirement before you leave the house. For CDQ: Live in Bedford on 17 October, it is no ID, no entry.
