Privacy policy
How Brainbox Culture looks after your personal information.
Last updated: 14 October 2026
Who we are
Brainbox Culture is an independent online magazine created by Brainbox Entertainment. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean [Brainbox Entertainment Ltd,UK]. We are the “data controller” for the personal information described here, which means we decide how and why it is used.
You can contact us about this policy at info@brainboxent.com or through our contact page.
What information we collect, and why
When you contact us. If you use our contact form or email us, we collect your name, email address, the topic and your message. We use it to reply to you and to deal with your request. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering enquiries, or taking steps you have asked for before entering into an agreement with us.
When you join our newsletter. We collect your email address (and your name, if you give it) so we can send you news about stories, artists and events. Our legal basis is your consent. You can withdraw it at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us. We keep your details until you unsubscribe.
Tickets and bookings. We do not take ticket payments on this website. Tickets are sold by third-party ticketing providers (for example Fatsoma) and bookings may be made by contacting us directly. Those providers have their own privacy policies and are responsible for the information you give them. If you book or reserve a table with us directly, we collect your name and contact details to manage the booking.
Photos and video at events. We take photographs and film at our events and publish some of them on this website, in our gallery, in magazine articles and on social media. If you are identifiable in a picture, that is personal information. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in documenting and promoting our events. We tell people at events that filming and photography is taking place. If you do not want to be photographed, tell a member of our team on the night. If you want a photo or video of you taken down, contact us and tell us which one, and we will remove it.
Using the website. Like most websites, ours records some technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device and the pages you view. We use it to keep the site secure and working.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We only share it with organisations that help us run the site and our events, such as:
- our website hosting provider, Namecheap;
- our newsletter and form tools (the Fluent Forms plugin stores form entries on our own website);
- ticketing providers, when you choose to buy tickets from them; and
- professional advisers, or the authorities, where the law requires it.
Some of these providers are based outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on safeguards the law recognises, such as the UK’s approved transfer arrangements.
Cookies and embedded content
Cookies are small files stored on your device. This website uses cookies that are necessary for it to work. Some pages may include content from other sites, such as YouTube videos or Instagram posts. Those sites may set their own cookies when you view or play that content, and we do not control them.
How long we keep information
We keep enquiry messages for as long as needed to deal with them and for up to 12 months afterwards. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. Photos and video are kept for as long as they remain part of our archive, unless you ask us to remove them.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that is wrong;
- ask us to delete your information, or restrict how we use it;
- object to us using your information based on our legitimate interests;
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it; and
- ask for your information in a portable format, in some cases.
To use any of these rights, contact us. We will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Children
Our events are for people aged 18 and over, and this website is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you think we have, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
